Week 3
After completing both reading assignments, you are to report how the American Indians experienced the cycle of adversity, survival, adaptation, and prosperity. **** I will send book pages over after you accept the question. Here is the link to the second reading:The Balance of Tradition and Practicality.pdf
What you do:
Select different examples to use to make your point based off of this weeks National Geographic reading assignment. The article can be found in this week’s module.
When you are working with this assignment, make sure you list the page number, and section number from where each example is selected. Address how American Indians experienced Adversity, Survival Adaptation and Occasional Prosperity on a Micro, Meso and Macro level.
Before beginning this assignment, make sure you have read the “WEEK 3-TIP” that is placed in the “Announcement” section. The information corresponds with this assignment.
******( Here is the tip from the instructor)
A student had a question regarding how to lay out week three assignment. Below is an example of how the assignment should unfold. Make sure you include the page number and section number. This assignment requires critical thinking and a very clear explanation. It is important that you are able to see a variety of variables and challenges at multiple levels when you are working with people. Recognizing variables and challenges is most definitely an asset that will serve your client well when you are working in the field.
ASSIGHNMENT:
Micro Level (Only required to select two from the micro level.)
Adversity:
A Micro level addresses an individual, or a small part of something bigger.
An example of Adversity and how it relates to this story is when Brad made the following statement: “Every kind of priest was there, from Catholics to the Buddhists, but there was no one for us Indians”. This example is referring to how Brad, and other American Indians did not have spiritual support to help them individually and collectively process what they were seeing while working to clean up the aftermath of 9/11. “Brad was one of the many Mohawks who worked to clear the debris and search for remains, putting in 12-hour days for three and a half months. And like everyone else working in the ruins, Brad’s crew soon carried burdens heavier than concrete and steel”. This scenario can be found on page 69, paragraph 26.
Survival – Explain how survival was demonstrated on a Micro level. Include the page number and the section number.
Adaptation– Explain how adaptation was demonstrated on a Micro level. Include the page number and the section number.
Occasional Prosperity– Explain how prosperity was demonstrated on a Micro level. Include the page number and the section number.

Did you know:
A Micro level is the smallest level of something. For example, in a family setting the micro
level would be an individual in the family.
The Meso level, also known as Mezzo, would be the larger level. For example, if I were
describing a traditional family, I would describe the nuclear family (mom, dad, daughter and
son), as the meso level. But if I were just speaking about the daughter independently, I
would be using the micro approach.
The Macro level is the largest level. If I were speaking of this family’s extended family
(grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins), then I would be speaking of the Macro level.
Another example:
Individual = Micro
Tribe = Meso
All the tribes = Macro
