Fourth IR

Candice Kellough posted Dec 12, 2021, 10:26 PM

The company I choose was UPS. Their global and corporate headquarters is located in Atlanta, GA (UPS, 2021). They are known for being the largest package delivery service in the world and specialize in “ground delivery, transportation, distribution, and international trade and brokerage services in developed and emerging markets worldwide (UPS, 2021).

The aspect I chose to look at in regard to strategic planning is autonomous cars. The impact this will have on strategic planning is huge. For my company, UPS, for instance they currently employee about 543,000 employees. A large percentage of those employees are delivery drivers. Autonomous cars would completely change the way they go about business. Autonomous cars could help meet their goals of providing quick, efficient service. They could possibly cut down on cost as well. One question would be, however, what happens to the current drivers, will autonomous eventually be the main mode of transportation for delivery services like UPS? Problems like safety concerns and how receptive consumers are to this new technology could definitely prevent that from happening.
