THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXAMPLE *****

Topic: Benefits and Barriers to Telehealth in the Medical Field.

Article 1:

Gajarawala, S., & Pelkowski, J. (2020). Telehealth benefits and barriers. The Journal for Nurse

Practitioners. doi: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.nurpra.2020.09.013

Gajarawala and Pelkowski (2020) begin their article by first defining what exactly telehealth/telemedicine is: the use of telecommunications including audio and video technology to conduct a patient consultation and assessment. Gajarawala and Pelkowski (2020) go on to stress that telehealth is used successfully over many different specialties, and can help lower the cost of healthcare for many Americans now that healthcare reimbursement is focused more on patient outcomes rather than on solely a fee-for-service basis. Lastly, they review some of the barriers to telehealth, including legal barriers such as lack of multistate licensing for physicians (Gajarawala & Pelkowski, 2020).

Article 2:

Joshi, A. U., & Lewiss, R. E. (2020). Telehealth in the time of COVID-19. Emergency Medicine

Journal: EMJ, 37(10), 637-638. doi:http://dx.doi.org.proxy.cecybrary.com/10.1136/emer…

Joshi and Lewiss (2020) discuss how telehealth has been a successful and necessary option for treatment and screening of COVID-19 patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. The specific program that Joshi and Lewiss (2020) refer to in their article enables these patients to receive competent, affordable and safe care provided by clinicians with emergency room, internal medicine and family practice experience. Using telehealth communication, the providers were able to triage the patients into three groups: home quarantine without a need for a test, home quarantine with outpatient COVID-19 testing, and referral of patient to the ED for further in person evaluation (Joshi & Lewis, 2020).
